Orthopaedic Traumatology Fellowship

The Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship is a twelve month program designed for board eligible orthopaedic surgeons, after their residency training. The fellow will have the opportunity to participate in treating and managing complex polytrauma patients. Experience will be gained working in conjunction with a multitude of highly trained Orthopaedic specialists at University Medical Center, Southern Nevada's ACS verified Level I Trauma Center. Besides trauma, emphasis can be placed on subspecialties such as foot and ankle, upper extremity, spine, and pelvic reconstruction. Outpatient adult and pediatric Orthopaedic clinics are established for patient follow up and new patients. Research and publication in any related field of interest is expected. On average, the fellow will be on Trauma call every third twenty-four hour shift. The clinical aspect of this fellowship will be an intense learning experience with a high volume of complex polyorthopaedic injuries. An extensive exposure to clinical and surgical cases will ensure a solid educational experience. Successful completion of this fellowship will result in Certification from the University of Nevada, School of Medicine.

Orthopaedic Trauma Resident Rotation

The orthopaedic trauma rotation is a three-month program offered to orthopaedic residents in their last one and a half years of their residency training. The program is designed to fully engage residents in the management and treatment of complex orthopaedic traumatic injuries at University Medical Center, which is the only level I Trauma center in Southern Nevada. This opportunity provides high volume exposure to our Trauma Emergency Room, our main Emergency Room as well as our Pediatric Emergency Room. Residents will gain experience working with polytrauma patients cared for by our multispecialty medical team. Residents are also involved in running adult and pediatric orthopedic clinics and also participate in student teaching.

Residents completing their three-months rotations will gain significant surgical skills and confidence to manage virtually any traumatic orthopaedic condition. University Medical Center is affiliated with The University of Nevada, School of Medicine.
